Honeymoon, Day ?? (I lose track)
Today, we walked on Kilauea. Yesterday, we flew over the crater and active lava flow in a tiny little Cessna that has more engine hours than I do. Pictures when we get back.

Another day, another dolphin, swimming with me in the ocean.

    Eh, whatever.

    Tomorrow, more stupid volcano lavas.

    2009 story fragments
I didn't not write nearly as much this year, I was too busy to not do things.

But it's tradition now, so here are my 2009 unwritten stories.

Maybe I'll actually write the first one this year. )

    2009 State of the Chuck
Last year me was bored and stagnant at work, deeply lonely and single without much hope of keeping a girl around.

This year me is frantically trying to get up to speed at a tech startup, prepping my house to try to sell, happily married with a baby on the way. (Maybe twins, we'll know in a week or so!)

What a difference a year makes.

beer, crime and a new floor
So it's apparently the season for dudes to slaughter their families on my block. Last weekend was the dude down the block who shot his baby mama and little kids in the face. This weekend is the big manhunt for the dude a block or two over who killed his baby mama, their two year old, his other baby mama and their other two year old. Classy.

So we're selling the house, asap. Spring, hopefully. I wish I could stay but between the forensics van overstaying its welcome last weekend and the cops with dogs flashing lights at the wife as she pulled into the driveway tonight, I can no longer deny that Madison is a shitty town.

So to sell the house, I need to put a new floor covering down in the basement so it can be listed as finished space. (The carpet that was there when I bought it had to come out because of horrid cat stank.) I'm trying to decide between laminate and cheapish carpet. Thoughts?

In order to move everything out of the basement and put a whatever down, I need to move everything out of the area that's not floored. Time wise, this is mostly my beer stuff. So I've spent the weekend bottling/kegging/cleaning. (Mostly cleaning.) The results!

    Nanobrews: (~1.5L test batches)
    The Good!
    - Lymes (keffir lime leaves, lime juice and lime zest, in a dry mead)
    The potable.
    - Mango Chutney (dry mead)
    - Oak Cherry Stout
    - Lychees on my Peaches! (sweat mead) (not a typo)
    - Christmas Ceer (Mulled Cyser)
Less good than I really hoped for and that's saying something:
    - Project Rosebud (green tea and green pea sweet mead) (more fun to say than to drink)
Oops, I poisoned the wife (and myself):
    - Black Currant Sherry
Booze shouldn't clot up like that:
    - Guava Sherry
    - Pear Sherry
    - Banana Sherry
    - Pumpkin Mead

(I think my sherry yeast sucked.)

    Normal sized microbrews (3-5G)
    The Good!
    - Mead (plain old mead)
    - Lefse (Leffe clone with a yeast mixup)
    The surprisingly not immediately fatal!
    - Prison Wine
Oops, I poisoned the wife again! Crap! She's going to be mad this time. :(
    - Organic Cider (glark)

Still on the table and in need of dealing with:
    - Old Brown Sour
    - Mead (downsized)
    - Cyser
    - La Brea Tar Stout

    yearly update
So my earlier theory about how I'm unlikely to post on LJ when my life is going well seems true.

I still feel obligated to give a brief update; it's been a while.

I got laid off from Tomo. I spent two days unemployed, sat on the couch, ate bonbons, played video games, did some consulting and now work at Networked Insights. We're responsible for http://www.bacontalk.com/ (among other things).

    That's about all. Happy Halloween!

    Introducing Dr. Mrs. The Chuck

I'll be dropping back onto the face of the earth sometime after Thursday - sorry I've not been keeping up with things, but between this and my math final things are a bit hectic.

    Huxley vs Orwell
This cartoon reminded me that we really are living in Huxley's distopia, not Orwell's, and it could be a whole lot worse. I nearly wrote my senior theses on that back in '93, but it morphed into an essay on MUDs and how many futures would be eaten by World of Warcraft.

But it's a pretty good cartoon.

Because if there's one problem Madison has, it's too much parking.

Things I want but probably shouldn't have; Volume One
    This:

Yes, that's right, it's a MIDI controlled tesla coil generating sonic feedback, and a guy in a faraday suit playing the lightning bolt.

    SXSW 6 word reviews
I like these alot. Writing six word reviews for a thousand songs sounds like some work.

I'm going to keep updating this with songs I've liked from the list.

Things I'll listen to again so far:

    screw you, Obama
Screw you and your little RIAA lapdog Biden, too, for deciding that $150,000 is a reasonable amount to be sued for for sharing a single $1 song, and for hiring the RIAA to run the DoJ.

    weekend update
Cleaned the house, did some laundry, sorted some files, played some video games, got engaged, had lunch with Chuck&Kathleen, killed the end boss in Curse of the Crimson Throne, watched Labyrinth. Oh, and ate icecream & lentils. Not together.

All in all, a pretty good weekend :)
